This product embodies Mayan women's efforts to deal with environmental problems. It represents the marriage of traditional and modern, ancient technology and contemporary materials. Aware of the importance of reducing plastic waste in Guatemala, Mayan Hands' weavers are coming up with a variety of products made out of plastic bags from the landfill and their communities. The women collect, clean and wash the plastic bags--which in Guatemala come in all colors of the rainbow. They cut them into strips, and then weave them on the ancient backstrap loom
